Cleaning your smartphone isn’t something you probably give much thought to, but it’s as important - if not more - than cleaning your toilet regularly.
After all, according to Time Magazine, Americans touch their smartphones on average 47 times a day. So, we Aussies would be on par. In addition, the endless times you put down or pick your phone up off unclean surfaces only adds to the ‘ick’ factor.
Your phone is literally crawling with bacteria, so make cleaning it a weekly must-do with our simple tips for keeping your smartphone clean and bug-free.
We’ll get right to it. Professionals state that your phone is TEN TIMES dirtier than a toilet seat and carry disease-causing bacteria and yep - fecal matter. And you regular put that in your hand, against your head and near your mouth.
Take a breath…
Now that you’ve recovered from almost dropping your super filthy phone you are reading this EFM blog on, we’ll give you the good news.
Cleaning your smartphone once or twice a week will not only nix the paranoia of knowing you’re carrying around a portable petri dish, but could also (unsurprisingly) improve your health.
There’s a few different phone cleaning methods out there that online communities have tried and given the seal of approval. There’s also some to avoid at all costs if you value your phone.
First thing’s first. DO NOT- and we repeat - DO NOT use the antibacterial cleaning wipes you have under the kitchen sink on your phone. These are abrasive and can damage your phone’s body and screen.
Instead, take a household spray bottle and fill it halfway with 70% rubbing alcohol (methylated spirits). Fill the other half with bottled water (it’s purer than tap water), put the spray bottle cap back on and shake the mixture. Now, lightly spray the mixture on a microfibre cloth (the kind that you use for dusting), and give your phone a good rub. Don’t ever spray the solution onto your phone directly.
And that’s it! You have a poo and germ-free, clean-smelling phone. Pick a day to do this (Sunday evening works well to ensure your phone starts the week fresh and clean) and only do this once a week. As the mixture is strong, it isn’t recommended for daily cleaning as this can cause wear and tear on your screen.
Prefer a more organic homemade phone cleaner? Mix 50% white vinegar and 50% distilled water and apply it in the same way as the above method. Simple!
Unfortunately we can’t keep your phone germ-free for you, but the EFM Screen and Case Armour range can keep the germs away from your actual phone’s surface, helping to prolong its lifespan.
As an added bonus, our phone screen protectors are also equipped with grease and fingerprint repelling technology, to keep your phone cleaner for longer.
Now get to it and clean your phone today!
